Feedback Summary 2004

2004 MABEL LEAGUE 360º FEEDBACK FORMS

The 2004 Mabel League Executive would like to thank everyone who provided feedback through this form or other mediums throughout the 2004 season. We hope that the 2005 Executive will use your feedback as a guide to review and address common issues and complaints that will help improve your satisfaction with the Mabel League.

Notable changes the Executive made in 2004:

·         Enhancements were made to the Mabel League website to improve content and usability. A content management tool was selected that will allow for quicker updates by multiple content contributors who will not require web publishing skills.

·         The Executive agreed to a separate committee for the LIL tournament per the Constitution with representation from the League executive.

·         2 new fields were added (Clark Park & Southhill)

·         Scores and standings were added to the Mabel League website

·         All Executive members were required to provide documentation for all Executive positions so new Executive members are aware of previous processes, contact information etc.

·         Imposed a 3 strike rule for defaulting a game for teams who do not provide a minimum of 36 hours notice.

·        360 Feedback Form – The players opportunity to voice their opinion and create objectives for the next Executive.

A summary of what you said the Executive should consider in 2005:

·         Review the fields used for league play.

·         Attempt to evenly distribute the league play throughout the season to a maximum of two games per week. Avoid Statutory Holidays, Mother & Father’s Day and Folkfest

·         Consider extending the season to the end of August.

·         Present umpires with hardcopy of tournament rules prior to each and every tournament.

·         Review the finals tournament structure.

·         Review the profit percentage that teams receive for dances and concessions.

·         More social events.

·         Consider the implications of not selling chocolates or provide options for those teams that do not want to sell them.

·         Consider allowing games to be re-scheduled in the event that both teams are unable to play without a fee being imposed.

·         Review point values for Executive participation.

·         Review Sunday game time. Consider an earlier start.

·         Review Divisions

·         Inquire about the benefits of non-profit status.

·         Review format and update timeframe of website standings

·        Review how the base umps select games.  Consider having competitive teams base ump competitive games.

VERBATIM COMMENTS

Question: What things did you like about the League this year?

·         Divisions

·         So far, I enjoy the league.

·         I like the cross over of play between the divisions.

·         Everything was great.

·         I felt comfortable bring issues to the executive, even if the results I wanted do not happen. I knew that the women on the executive had listened. I found less frustration between teams, most umpires and the executive.

·         Had a blast and great fun. Great work by everyone and good to see people clean up after themselves. Meltdown was awesome.

·         LIL - much better

·         I thought the League was more organized this year, as opposed to the last couple of years.

·         Good

·         Organized LIL

·         Not sure, it was my first year with this league. Time will tell I guess. There were a couple teams that had baddddd attitudes!

·        I had a great time…looking forward to next year.

·        Great social environment. LIL tournament (Fantastic)

Question: What things would you change for next year?

·         Better diamonds.

·         The schedule this year for my team was pretty much over end of June. The majority of all our games were played in May.

·         The schedule, played too many games against same team too many times, also too few games at the end of the year or the last month

·         Get rid of Britannia park!!

·         Some teams had too much lay over between games. Some umpires do not know the rules enough (they need to learn the basics). Do not have rec players umping the two top divisions.

·         If a team is obviously too good for their division, they should move up whether they want to or not.

·         Base umps- have competitive teams base ump competitive games

·         I would like to see this executive continue for one more year and perhaps add a few more good women.

·         I wouldn't schedule so many games in the week before the playoffs. I would go back to a double knock out format for the season end tournament.

·         10 points for serving on the executive is too much. It should be 5. Otherwise any team that has two executive members is pretty much a shoe-in and that looks like a conflict of interest for the exec to be making being an exec worth so much

·         Selling of chocolates. Bad time to sell them in the heat and not good tasting...they suck...if we have to raise more money why not sell something good. Not chocolates in summer time when they melt.

·         LIL and Finals - not run the rec and intermediate finals concurrently (indicates lack of respect for these teams) complete round robin in the finals; clarity regarding rules for last at-bats (I prefer no at-bats for all teams after the game has been won). Do we have to stop playing at the end of July?!!!

·         Change Sunday games to 1pm - 6:30 is too late

·         Wasn't enough games in July

·        I would space out the games more so they go till at least a week before the finals. Also we played a team 3 times in a row, I would mix it up more.

·        No Crappy Almonds

Question: Would you change anything in our Constitution/Bylaws?

·         Any team that puts on an event such as a dance or a food stand should get to keep AT LEAST 50% of what they make.

·         I would like to see the LIL separate from the league. I would like there (always) to be a member of the league as part of the LIL committee. I would like to see the league apply for non-profit society status from Victoria or at least look into what benefits besides a tax number, this status will bring.

·         -Yes- if we can't play a date - have an option to reschedule without penalty

Question: How was the league schedule this year?

·         Good

·         Needs some minor adjustments

·         Our team not well, I feel we stuck with bad fields often and too few games at the end of the year

·         Pretty good. We had 3 games one week and that was too much.

·         It was fine for our team. I would have liked one more game in July. We had 2 game in July. It did leave lots of time for practice.

·         Excellent!

·         For the most part it was great except for one long stretch where we barely played at all; liked having a lot of games to play though

·         Mostly good with the exception of too many games in the week of the playoffs.

·         Our schedule basically had us playing a lot in May/June and tapered off in July - a more balanced schedule would have been detrimental to our 'flow'...

·         League schedule was horrible.

·         A little crazy towards the end, playing the same team 3 times in a row and having fewer games.

Question: What would you change about the schedule, if anything?

·         Schedule two games per week, sometimes we had 3 games and then none for two weeks. Do not play the same team in the same week.

·         I like the proposed changes: no games the week before finals, no games on big event weekends like folk fest.

·         Games need to be schedule more consistently and more on the weekends.

·         I would also like more variety of fields. We played mostly at Temp. and Brit.

·         Play more games on weekends and make Sunday games earlier.

·         Couldn't we play for the whole summer?

·         More teams allowed into the intermediate (aka not advanced) division

·         Remove the grumpy old umpire that can't see or move to call a play from the line up.

Question: How was the website this year?

·         Good

·         Awesome

·         I really like the website.

·         Excellent! Very informative and up-to-date

·         Can't compare because it was my first year here.

·         Good, but the scores for the last couple of games are still not entered in the standings.

·         Much better. More information, better laid out and easy to e-mail executive members.

·         Great. Good job whoever did it…

·         Decent website.

·         Well organized - the white background makes it look "under construction" though.

·         Much improved

Question: What would you change about the website, if anything?

·         Update standings more often.

·         I would like to type in my teams name and get the schedule only for my team and if I wanted everyone’s schedule I could type: all.

·         Standings - I don't know how to do it, but it would be great if we could see which team won/lost which game (against which team). Maybe scores included?

·         More teams have website to check them out…and interact with other teams.

·         Maybe encourage more teams to promote themselves on the net like the Something Naked team has done.

Question: Any other comments or suggestions?

·         Overall the executive is showing more interest in what we are saying. It is a tough job and we appreciate your efforts.

·         Britannia was rented out as a parking space to a film crew one time that we were there.

·         I think that the Executive did an excellent job this year considering what they were left with from previous years. You must have done a lot for cleaning. Thanks for doing all that you did. I hope you will continue to improve this league. Thanks for this questionnaire. It has given me and others the room to communicate our thoughts and feelings. It shows me that you are willing to make the changes that suite the majority and not (as in previous years) the few teams that have representation on the executive. Thank-you.

·         More shade for tournaments like LIL and Playoffs. More tournaments during the season. More interaction with other teams not just the ones in division. Had a blast and was great to play some awesome ball. Thanks alot. Cheers

·         No finals on provincials weekend

·         More social events throughout the season.

·         I think it should be put forward to have an event, maybe a nice dinner party social event for people in the league (past and present), charge for tix to get in, and it could be a fund-raiser for the league, and find some women who are interested in talking about the history of the league and what it used to be like and what the league means to them.

·         Thanks so much for all the hard work everyone has done to create such a friendly inviting place to play ball. This was my first year playing in this league and it's has been so much fun I'll definitely be back next year!

·         Change in LIL format improved it, umps should be informed to overrule less experienced base umps on bad calls.

·         Great job! Thanks for all the time put in by volunteers!!!
